ROAD ACROSS LAND – 1986 – Oil on Board – 135 x 100 cm
Private Collection, New Zealand
Here is a painting where I was experimenting with a variety of landscape compositional elements while utilising the contrast between the white limestone chip roads and the dark manuka foliage of the Northland, New Zealand, gum fields. What the Dalmatians call the Ahipara Glavica seems a dead stretch of land, but it is actually very alive and vibrant in its strangeness.
