Odesyk

 

The first sculpture erected at the Hikulagi Space was Odesyk by Mikoyan Vekula. This is a 6 metre semicircle of 6 totem pole of Kafika hardwood decorated intricately cut and inverted beer cans. The circle is completed by limestone rocks (makatea)

The totems depict a family, with the guardians on each end of the semi-circle and the 4 children in the middle. At the centre of the circle is a bench intented for the viewer's contemplation and meditation.
